Tayschrenn’s character in the main series was relatively elusive from the little I remember. This made it a joy to behold how an ill-mannered “boy” grew up and found his strength. His chapters were the best in this title while the other POV characters were a bit flip-flop.
In addition, the book is much less complicated than some of the other Malazan installments as there is only major plot line. This made me regret that this book is the last in this series as Mr Esslemont’s prequels have turned out to be both captivating and enjoyable.
