Review: Joy in the Morning, P.G. Wodehouse

Rating: 5 out of 5

It’s something I’ve mentioned previously, but because it’s true—and a main characteristic of listening to Wodehouse—I must bring it up again. Specifically, whenever I’m out and about with Jeeves & Wooster, I’m liable to start laughing at any time. Mr Wodehouse has written something that is almost irresistibly irreverent and funny, making it an absolute joy to experience.

This particular one I found sightly easier to figure out what was going to happen, though naturally I missed many of the more absurd plot points. Nevertheless, the general trend of getting out of an accidental marriage proposal while helping out the uncle seemed sure to allow for plenty of opportunities to fall deeper into the mud, so to say, in which Wooster did not disappoint.

Whether the better sequences had the Justice of the Peace arguing with the local police on a midnight strike in the garden or grumpy uncles locked in sheds is not even that important. It was great through and through: a true joy in the morning!
